Property tax on a typical home
British Columbia is the only province that publishes an official, comparable figure for the tax on a typical house in every municipality. In 2026, West Vancouver had the highest property taxes on its representative house ($11,381) and Penticton the lowest ($4,312) among the 28 B.C. municipalities we cover.
How this ranking works
Figures are from the Province of B.C. Local Government Statistics, Schedule 704 "Taxes and Charges on a Representative House". The house value is the average assessed value of single-family residential properties in each municipality, from BC Assessment. "Taxes" are the variable-rate property taxes (school, municipal, regional district, hospital and other levies) before the home owner grant; parcel taxes and user fees are shown separately. Other provinces do not publish a comparable figure, so we do not estimate one.
