Tax year 2026 · Official sources

Editorial policy

Updated October 28, 2026

The rules every page follows, and how pages are made.

Accuracy rules

  1. Official sources only. Provincial and territorial statutes and government pages, municipal bylaws and budgets, finance ministries, assessment authorities, Statistics Canada and the CRA.
  2. Every figure shows its source, a link, the tax year and the date it was last verified.
  3. Every source is archived: a copy of the document or the passages used is kept so any figure can be traced.
  4. Two-step verification. Figures are extracted, then checked in a separate pass against the source. Figures that do not match are held back.
  5. No estimates of missing data. If a rate is not published, the page says so and shows the latest confirmed year.
  6. Explain, don't advise. Program pages set out the official rules and link to the official application; they never say whether a reader qualifies. Calculators are labelled as estimates.
  7. Corrections are public: see the corrections policy and log.

How pages are made, including AI

Data collection, the written explanations and the second-pass checks are carried out with AI tools that work only from the official documents and must cite and archive each one. A validator rejects any record with missing sources, components that do not add up or unsupported claims. Rates, calculators and rankings are computed directly from the verified figures by code. We disclose this so readers can judge the work; the standard for every page is the same: accurate, sourced and current.
