Since 2024 Gatineau sets the residential (résiduelle, under 6 dwellings) general property tax rate separately for each unité de voisinage (neighbourhood unit), listed in Annex I of the tax bylaw. There is no single city-wide residential rate. The municipal component shown is the bylaw's 'taux de base' (5.224 $ per 1 000 $), which is a reference rate, not the rate every home pays. In 2026, Annex I lists 1092 neighbourhood units with rates from 1,613 $ to 7,544 $ per 1 000 $ (range counted from the bylaw annex). Transit and debt special taxes apply to all taxable properties. The infrastructure fund rate (0,579 $) is included in the base and category rates (bylaw art. 10). The 2026 budget shows a median home of 454 600 $ (spread value 454 600 $) paying a residential tax of 2 374,83 $, transit 644,17 $, residual materials 178,83 $ and debt service 377,32 $ (3 575,15 $ before ex-city taxes). Ex-city sector taxes per 1 000 $: Buckingham 0,018 $, Hull 0,036 $; per dwelling: Aylmer 6,42 $, Gatineau 9,53 $. Residual-materials charge: 178,83 $ per dwelling. Bylaw arts. 13-14 allow a credit of 0,386 $ per 1 000 $ for properties not connected to the city water service and 0,523 $ per 1 000 $ for properties not connected to the sewer service. School tax: the source rate is per 100 $ and has been multiplied by 10 here only so it can sit in the same per-1,000 $ unit as Gatineau's rates (no other change). School tax is billed separately by the school service centre, on the uniformized and spread (étalée) value, after a 25 000 $ exemption, for the school year July 1 to June 30.
Rates as published for the residential class. Bills can also include fixed charges, local improvement levies and utility fees that are not based on assessed value.
