2026 budget approved Nov. 6, 2025: rate unchanged at $1.3614 per $100. Former Moncton LSD unchanged at $0.9908 per $100 ($0.5793 City + $0.4115 Province). Non-residential rate $2.3144 per $100. City example: home assessed at $379,603 pays $379,603/100 x $1.3614 = $5,167 in 2026. 2026 was a provincial assessment-freeze year (City: 'a year of assessment freeze'). Rate is per $100 of assessed value, the City's residential rate only. The City's example formula is 'Assessed value of your property/100 x (municipal tax rate)'. Province of New Brunswick (s6, current GNB page checked 2026-10-28): 'The provincial tax rate is $0.5617 per $100 of assessed value.' A home lived in as the owner's primary residence gets the Residential Property Tax Credit, which 'reduces the provincial tax rate to $0 on the first 0.5 hectares of land around your home'. The provincial rate is therefore left out of this owner-occupied headline; non-owner-occupied residential property pays it on top of the City rate.

Compare two cities

Moncton's total residential rate of 1.3614% is below the 1.4081% average of the 3 New Brunswick municipalities we cover. A lower rate does not always mean a lower bill: tax = assessed value × rate, so cities with high home values often have lower rates.

When Moncton property tax is due and how to look up your bill

2026 due dates

  • May 31, 2026

The Province of New Brunswick (Department of Finance and Treasury Board), not the City, bills and collects property tax. One annual bill: 2026 property tax bills were sent to owners the week of March 2, 2026 (s11). For notices mailed in March, current-year taxes must be paid in full by May 31 to avoid penalty (s7, s8); some owners receive notices later, with updated payment dates on the notice (s7). Optional Equalized Payment Plan: 12 equal monthly withdrawals from a chequing account, March to February, no penalty and no administration fee; applications accepted until May 31 (s9, s11). The 2026-05-31 date is the province's stated rule applied to 2026; the date printed on each notice governs.

Late payment: 'A penalty rate of 0.7591% per month (or 9.50% annually) is applied to overdue taxes on the first day of each month' after the penalty date on the notice (usually 85 days after the notice is mailed) (s7).

How assessment works in New Brunswick

Assessments show the value of the property as of January 1 each year (s6). For 2026 a one-year freeze applies: the value for taxation 'with some exceptions, remains at the 2025 level' (s10). The second level of appeal is the Assessment and Planning Appeal Tribunal (s12). Filing a review does not delay the payment due date on the tax bill (s12).
