Municipal programs

  • Home Owners GrantWhitehorse

For an owner-occupied principal residence in Whitehorse: under 65, 50% of property taxes up to a maximum of $450; 65 and over, 75% of property taxes up to a maximum of $500. It applies only where property taxes exceed $100, with one grant per eligible residence per year. It is not applied automatically, so an application is needed every year (online at whitehorse.ca/hog, by email, in person or by mail/Drop Box). For 2026, the deadline was June 10 if a mortgage company pays the taxes and July 2 if the owner pays directly.

  • Seniors' Property Tax DefermentWhitehorse

Seniors aged 65 and over may apply to defer a portion of property taxes on the primary residence they live in, provided they have home owners insurance. Up to 75% of assessed value can be deferred for titled properties and 50% for homes in a mobile home park. The 10% penalty does not apply, but monthly interest accrues. The Home Owners Grant can still be received but is applied to the tax account.
